Beatgrid is redefining cross-media measurement with breakthrough deep-tech innovation. Brands spend billions on advertising across TV, streaming services, YouTube, radio, podcasts, and other channels. Each platform reports its own results, making it difficult for advertisers to understand who their campaigns reached across media channels and whether they made a difference. Our technology provides an independent view to major platforms and brands, including Google, Amazon Prime, Disney+, and Netflix.
People in our mobile panel run an app on their phone that recognises ads they hear around them, much like Shazam recognises a song. Measuring exposure across channels within the same panel helps advertisers understand how many different people a campaign reached and whether streaming reached audiences that TV missed. Our measurement also helps advertisers understand outcomes such as changes in brand perception and store visits.
As a Senior Software Engineer – Beatgrid Platform, you’ll have ownership of engineering from design through to production and help evolve the software architecture behind our measurement platform. This is a hands-on senior engineering role for someone passionate about system design who thinks beyond individual features, understands how systems interact, and can translate business requirements into robust, scalable and secure technical solutions.
You’ll contribute to architectural decisions, evaluate technologies and trade-offs, and take solutions from design through hands-on development and delivery, using AI tools to support implementation. We value strong engineering fundamentals, architectural thinking and adaptability over expertise in any single programming language.
About you
Responsibilities
- Translate business and product requirements into system design that accounts for dependencies, data flows, scalability, performance, security, reliability, and cost.
- Take end-to-end ownership of features and technical solutions across Beatgrid’s platform, from architectural design and implementation through testing, deployment and ongoing maintenance.
- Work hands-on across the technology stack, building and improving backend, frontend, and infrastructure-as-code, as required.
- Design and optimise cloud-based solutions, ensuring effective deployment, scalability, observability and operational reliability.
- Identify opportunities to improve system architecture, assess trade-offs, reduce technical complexity and cost, and address performance bottlenecks and technical debt.
- Work closely with the CTO and engineering teams to shape technical decisions, challenge assumptions, and explore new technical capabilities.
- Use appropriate engineering tools and practices to deliver clean, maintainable software and continuously improve development efficiency.
- Contribute to code reviews, technical discussions, and mentoring, helping raise engineering standards across the team.
Skills and experience
- Demonstrated software engineering experience, with a strong track record of designing and building scalable software systems.
- Strong understanding of backend engineering, APIs, data modelling, databases, and how software components interact, ideally with Kotlin and Spring Boot. Strong Java engineers interested in Kotlin are welcome.
- Strong understanding of HTML, JavaScript and CSS.
- Experience designing and deploying applications in cloud environments, preferably AWS or Azure.
- Understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous messaging, data flows, caching, and concurrency.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to anticipate dependencies and consequences beyond the immediate task.
- Pragmatic judgement to explain trade-offs, make decisions and deliver.
Bonus
- Experience with Kotlin, Java, Spring Boot.
- Experience with TypeScript, React, or other reactive libraries.
- Experience with Kafka, SNS/SQS, or other messaging and event-streaming technologies.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, Elasticsearch or analytical storage systems.
- Experience with infrastructure as code, preferably Terraform.
- Familiarity with containerisation, CI/CD, observability and production monitoring.
